Hunting Information

Recommended Clothing & Equipment
Footwear and hats are most important, particularly a pair of lightweight ankle-high boots or shoes, well broken in before the hunt. We suggest you bring a pair of tennis shoes, a soft broad-brimmed hat and one pair of buckskin or similar gloves for cool mornings (May-August).
Note that olive green and khaki coloured cotton clothing are the best for hunting. A jacket will be needed for the cool mornings and evenings. Camouflage clothing is permitted in South Africa but prohibited in most other African countries.
Laundry is normally done on a daily basis and therefore is not necessary to bring suitcases and suitcases full of clothing.
We recommend you bring your own ammunition, good camera, binoculars, protective glasses and lightweight raincoat.

In South Africa our concessions are situated fairly close to shopping facilities where any toiletries you forget or require can be purchased. However, shopping facilities are not always so readily available in Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Botswana and Mozambique.

Firearm import/export permitsAll firearms imported into South Africa must be cleared at customs when entering the country. We highly recommend that you pay a clearing agent to sort out all the paperwork involved in importing your firearms to the country to prevent long delays on arrival. Please keep this form handy when traveling on all domestic flights within South Africa, each time you enter or exit an airport you will be required to display this form. Make sure that you have proof of ownership and declare that you are exporting the rifles from your country of origin.

Airport porter servicesPlease remain very alert if you make use of this service. The porters are easily identifiable by the official uniforms they wear. If possible, we recommend that you do not make use of this service. At this stage baggage trolleys are available free of charge and all terminals are situated very close to each other. There is no need to exit the main airport building when changing terminals.

Meals
Meal times will remain flexible and adapt to your hunting programme. Tea/coffee, toast and cereals are available before setting off for the days hunt. Normally, two cooked meals a day are prepared ie. brunch and dinner.

Refreshments
Cooldrinks, tea and coffee are available on request at no extra charge.

Medical
Malaria is endemic in the Zululand and Hoedspruit hunting concessions only. We recommend that anti-malaria tablets are taken when hunting in malaria areas. We suggest that you consult your doctor beforehand.
Should anyone require medical attention, doctors may be "called out" to our lodge. All payments for medical services will be for the clients account. Each camp and vehicle are equipped with first aid kits. We recommend that all clients purchase travel insurance and subscribe to emergency medical evacuation.

Flying doctor medical service
This is an air medical service, which will come to your assistance in the case of a genuine emergency. Each flight carries a qualified nurse and life saving equipment.

Laundry
A daily laundry service is available.

Telephone and e-mail
Telephone, fax and e-mail services are available at most camps. All calls will be for your own account.

Insurance
All reasonable precautions are taken to ensure the safety of our clients and their property. No responsibility is accepted for any accidents, illness, loss or expenses arising during or after a hunt.
It is not necessary whilst hunting to carry money, documents, passports and other valuables. We therefore recommend that these items be locked away in the safe provided at each camp.

Water
Not all tap water is treated and in some cases may taste salty. Drinking water is also provided in the room and bottled mineral water is available from the bar and kitchen.

Our tour operating company can plan and arrange both daily and longer tours various destinations in South Africa.

Gratuities / Tips
Tracker and camp staff: A gratuity can be given if you are happy with the staff's service. We suggest that this should be done through your Professional Hunter who will divide it amongst the staff who contributed to making your stay a hunt to be remembered. The recommended rate is $20.00 per day for the tracker and $5.00 per day for the rest of the staff.Gifts such as knives, clothing etc. may be given directly to certain staff members but we request that the client discuss the matter with your Professional Hunter to make sure that your good intentions do not offend in a country with customs we do not always understand.

Professional Hunter: It is always difficult to answer clients' questions about the recommended tipping rate for a Professional Hunter. We would like to suggest that 10% of the total daily rate is a good figure to work around.
